Lori Magana, licensed physical therapist and certified yoga therapist, began teaching therapeutic yoga in 2003, after receiving her initial yoga teacher certification with a therapeutic focus from Integrative Yoga Therapy (IYT). She continued her in-depth yoga therapy studies with IYT, completing the necessary training to be certified as a professional yoga therapist. She has also received her Yoga of the Heart, Cardiac and Cancer certification. She has her 500 hour level yoga teacher certification.

Because of Lori's extensive medical background in dealing with people of all levels of ability and disability, Lori is adept at creating a safe space for the student, and is comfortable dealing with all health challenges and disabilities.

As a yoga therapist, Lori will work with you as an individual, utilizing the philosophy of yoga, and applying the therapeutic use of all yoga tools such as specialized body awareness activities, Pranayama, asana, meditation, yoga nidra, ayurveda, and all her other specialized knowledge, to create an integrative program to support not only your health, but your life journey as well.

Lori graduated from Northwestern University Medical School, Programs in Physical Therapy in 1985. She has over 23 years of clinical experience in treating various medical conditions and orthopedic issues.

Lori would like to balance this clinical experience and her expertise in human anatomy and movement, with her in-depth knowledge of the therapeutic applications of yoga, to create a yoga therapy program to promote health and well-being in her client.

Lori says, “As a medical professional, one of my roles is to give people my professional opinion on ways they can improve their health and function. Even though I work holistically, my main concern is with the physical body. As a yoga therapist, I work with the “whole” body, the whole person. I do not tell a patient how to get better. I don’t prescribe techniques that “I know will fix you”. The yoga therapy integrative approach facilitates not only a healthier body, but also facilitates the client’s self-awareness. Through this process of self-awareness, the client awakens to his or her own innate wisdom, awakens to their own true self. This is the healing moment, this is when healing of the mind, body, and sprit occurs.”

Lori is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) and Yoga Alliance. She is a registered yoga teacher and has received her yoga certification at the 500 hour level.
